funemployment!

I'm unemployed for the first time in over four years. And it's a bit weird.
Here's what I've been up to for the last few weeks:

Reading: The Forest of Hands & Teeth series by Carrie Ryan & crying my way through Sisterhood Everlasting by Anna Brashares

Watching: Covert Affairs, Pretty Little Liars, Switched at Birth & Rizzoli & Isles are my current favourites.

Hairdressing: I finally took the plunge and got ombre highlights. And I love them!

Waiting: Patiently to visit my dear sister, Claire, for a little tea party at her new house. & for Jose Vanders' new EP to be released.

Eating: Homemade lasagne (homemade by yours truly) and blueberry/banana smoothies (yum!)

dreaming of-

With the end of my beloved bookstore, I am dreaming of a few things-

Bike rides.

A new tattoo or two.

Encouraging words.

I've been a busy girl this week, but here are a few things that I've been doing:

  •  Thanks to my lovely friend Kendall, I've been keeping a Positivity journal - at the end of every day, I take a few minutes to write down at least one thing that I've liked about that day. I thought it would be hard, but it's actually really fun. I still have days where all I can think of is a bible verse, or a passage from whatever book I've read that day, but I'm really enjoying it. Thank you, Kendall!
  • Finding out what colour I am here - I can't decide if I'm more peacock or night.
  • Reading like it's going out of fashion (well well well, that's a story for another time) I've finished The Forest of Hands and Teeth, and have moved onto The Dead-Tossed Waves, both by Carrie Ryan.
  • Spending my hard-earned cash on a gorgeous dress from ASOS.
So, that's me lately.

Do It Yourself

I've recently been doing a little bit of D.I.Y. (that can be used as a noun, right?) (Super duper easy things, btw, I'm really not that talented.)

I've made:
A twinkle light lamp (using a mason jar)

A whole bunch of friendship bracelets
(using embroidery thread and string.)

I'd really like to make a few more things:
Milk glasses/adorable vases!
(All that & more at More Design Please)

Yummy doily biscuits (via Tara Sloggett.)

This beautiful journal (from The Creative Place.)

And many many more beautiful things!

I've also recently put up another shelf in my room, (as I keep on making/buying/getting wonderful things and I don't have enough space for everything!)

Wonderful new shelf, featuring photos of my mum & aunty when they were wee, doilies (I love doilies, I am a nanna), Dennis & Donut (from Teddy Bears Wednesday), a lovely mirror given to me as a bridesmaid gift from my sister, an eiffel tower ornament from Paris, & my new twinkle light lamp. And above are my Jim & Pam magnets, a map of The Renegade Craft Fair Chicago from my lovely friend Kendall, and a watercolour from my other sister.
(See what I mean about too many things?)

So, if you have a crafty bone in your body (or even if you don't) why don't you try doing it yourself?

instagram + holidays = tattoo

So, it turns out, every time I go on holidays, I come back with a new tattoo.
(Newest tattoo is the bird.)

(Photo via my instagram, y'all should follow me on there.)

photo holding nesting dolls are my fave

Melanie is the best at crafty ideas! I would love to make these little Photo Holding Nesting Dolls. I think I would paint mine mint green, sky blue, pale peach and coral.
